Hi, as you all know, I like to share my creativity here on my website Tymoff Today. My pen name is T Tymoff and I write poems as well as stories. Today, I am sharing a poem I wrote, titled : “A woman swallowed by quicksand beach”. I got this idea of poem when I read a news about a woman who claimed she was swallowed by sands of a beach. It was a unique thing to hear although not exactly unheard. I wrote this poem without any intention of minimizing the pain and trauma of the woman concerned. So take it just as my creativity and nothing else.
Read it and enjoy. I will also share my analysis on this:
A woman swallowed by quicksand beach – Poem
She roamed and walked where the waves greet,
The sun’s warm rays and the ocean’s beat
But as she paved, the ground gave a way,
A very slow descent, oh! her fate did sway,
The sand right there was not as planned,
It grabbed her tight, like a gripping hand,
Oh, She sank, right within its reach—
A woman swallowed by quicksand beach.
Her heart beating fast, her breath as strain,
She fought very hard, to break off the chain,
But every move she made, it drew her even more,
The shore, The shore, it became a closing door,
No cries for help, oh, no distant sound,
Just silent deep sand pulling her down,
A tale the ocean could never ever teach—
A woman swallowed by quicksand beach.
Her body bowed and her spirit fought,
To break the trap, the doom which brought,
But quicksand knows no mercy’s face,
It drags you deep and without a trace,
Her hands reached out, but nothing near,
The end was nigh, the end was clear,
No force could now her life impeach—
A woman swallowed by quicksand beach.
The sun dipped low, the shadows grew,
Her world became a murky view,
The beach once bright, now cold and dark,
Her struggle left no lasting mark,
The ocean’s song, it played its part,
But failed to hear her beating heart,
Her story lost, beyond the breach—
A woman swallowed by quicksand beach.
Now legends tell of her lost name,
Of how she met her final claim,
A warning to those who dare to tread,
Where sands can pull you to the dead,
But time will pass, and sands will shift,
Erase the trace of nature’s rift,
Yet still the echoes softly screech—
A woman swallowed by quicksand beach.
Poem Analysis of “A woman swallowed by quicksand beach.”
Although I tried very hard to keep the poem less pessimistic, when I read it I found out that I had failed miserably. The poem is sad and it has a very slow yet depressing tone. I tried my best to keep the poem untouched of any extra literary scent. I tried making it as easy to read as possible and so I hope you enjoyed reading it.
The poem “A woman swallowed by quicksand beach” is a metaphor of how world and society traps a woman into the chains that are unbreakable. I took this woman as a character who is there to seek freedom and calmness, to enjoy the nature as it is her right to, but is trapped right when she thinks she is about to cross the boundary of land into the water. She reaches the beach and she is just about to accomplish what she wanted to achieve, but right there and then, she finds out that she has been trapped at the door of the sea, into a quicksand beach. She is now trying very hard to fight the battle of her dreams and survival, but the quicksand beach that represents the hurdles world creates for women in her way to success, it grabbing her like a hand and holding her tight, pulling her down.
She shouts for help, for support, but she cannot find any. This signifies how a woman who wanted to achieve her dreams failed because she wasn’t supported when the corrupt world tried to trap her. The poem “A woman swallowed by quicksand beach” is a metaphorical representation of the world as it is for women who want to succeed.
The phrase “The sand beneath her was not as planned” tells that when she started her journey, she expected that if she worked hard and honestly, she will be treated just like a man is treated in the society. She will be greeted with success as she deserves. But the world didn’t play along the way she was expecting.
What is the inspiration to my poem – A woman swallowed by quicksand beach?
I wrote this poem inspired by the news that I saw once on Internet. It said “Woman Swallowed by Quicksand While Enjoying Walk on the Beach with Husband: ‘Dropped Like a Rock'”. I read this news on People magazine’s website, and at once it came to my mind that what if this was a metaphor? And I started writing this beautiful poem. I kept the title as it is “A woman swallowed by quicksand beach” although it makes more sense now after my poem is complete.

Tone: The poem has a somber and reflective tone, underscoring the gravity of the woman’s struggle and the inevitability of her fate.
What happened to the woman swallowed by quicksand beach, did she survive?
Yes, she did survive. As per news reports, she was pulled by her husband who was walking with her. This, I wanted to add further into the poem but then I couldn’t. It didn’t come to me. I couldn’t write it. Maybe some other day, when I am feeling more optimistic, I will add some paragraphs to this poem, but right now, I cannot. In my poem, the woman doesn’t survive. She is a history!
Loved the poem, tymoff! I recently read this news and I have to say, your take on this is very creative. Cannot wait for read more!
Thanks, Steve!
I cannot believe someone thinks like that. Wanna meet for a coffee? By the way, what happened to that woman who was swallowed by the beach after this? It must have been traumatic, I guess!
I think she must have grown a fear of water. I wish I knew!
