Hey Tymoff Lovers, How are you? I am your friend T Tymoff and today I am sharing an interesting thing I just discovered. I am a bigtime fan of superheroes from both DC Comics and Marvel and my favs are obviously Batman and Ironman… coz they are both billionaires and they don’t have any other superhero powers but just their brains and will to fight! But none of these two characters have their name starting with a number. So who does? Are there marvel characters that start with a number? Well, what I found out was that yes, there are!
List of marvel characters that start with a number
So without any delay, I will just get to the point… I have the list of characters from Marvel Comics that start with a number. There names have a numeric beginning and there aren’t many such characters so this list is pretty small!
Check the list of marvel characters which start with a number.
3-D Man
The first characters with a name starting with number is 3-D Man. Unfortunately, he is the only character who is actually a superhero in my list! This marvel character with a number in name can do a lot. Let us learn more about 3-D Man.
Publication Information | Publisher: Marvel Comics First Appearance: Marvel Premiere #35 (April 1977) Created by: Roy Thomas (writer), Jim Craig (artist) |
In-Story Information | Alter Ego: Charles “Chuck” Chandler, Harold “Hal” Chandler Species: Human mutate |
Abilities (Charles Chandler) | Superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, reflexes, and senses Ability to see Skrulls in their original form Talented football player Accomplished pilot Skilled hand-to-hand combatant |
Abilities (Harold Chandler) | Superhuman strength, speed, durability, agility, reflexes, and senses Ability to see Skrulls in their original form Skilled hand-to-hand combatant Experienced scientific researcher |
Character Biography | Chuck Chandler: Test pilot captured by Skrulls, gained powers after exposure to strange radiation. Hal Chandler: Research scientist who could summon his brother Chuck as 3-D Man by concentrating on his glasses. |
Delroy Garrett | Took on the 3-D Man identity in Avengers: The Initiative #14 (2008) after first appearing as Triathlon in Avengers (vol. 3) #8 (1998). |
Powers Origin | Powers derived from exposure to radiation from a Skrull starship explosion, combined with one of three pyramid-shaped “fragments of light” created to counterbalance an other-dimensional fragment of pure evil. |
Other Versions | What If #9: Alternate version of 3-D Man formed a team called the 1950s Avengers with other heroes. Agents of Atlas: Similar events occurred in the mainstream Marvel continuity, though 3-D Man was not included due to being a 1970s retcon. |
Notable Aliases | Triathlon, Three Dimensional Man |
Team Affiliations | Avengers, Secret Avengers, Astonishing Avengers, Skrull Kill Krew, The Initiative, Agents of Atlas, Point Men, Triune Understanding |
So now you know about this first Marvel character with a number in his name. This is not that popular a character in movies or TV series and this generation of comic book fans mostly get their information from movies, so there is a chance not many of you know about 3-D Man. But, still, 3-D Man is a marvel character that stars with a number.
8-Ball
The second Marvel Character starting with a number is 8-Ball. 8-Ball, not actually a hero but a supervillain, is again not that popular nowadays! But many Marvel fans actually like 8-Ball because he also doesn’t have any superhero power but is very skilled pool player using a cue stick and exploding balls as his weapons. This is like Penguin’s Umbrella in DC Comics! He became a part of Hobgoblin’s team of supervillains later on! Moon Knight comics feature 8-Ball as his enemy.
Real Name | Jeff Hagees |
Character Name | 8-Ball |
Debut | Sleepwalker #2 (1991) |
Creators | Bob Budiansky, Bret Blevins |
Team Affiliations | None (initially solo villain; later part of a team of supervillains created by Hobgoblin) |
Powers/Abilities | No superhuman powers; skilled pool player; uses a concussive cue stick and exploding balls |
Notable Enemies | Sleepwalker, Moon Knight, various superheroes |
Fate | Initially killed by the Wrecker; later resurrected |
Notable Stories | Moon Knight #25 (2023): Resurrected and questions his identity as a supervillain |
Other Versions | Appears in The Amazing Spider-Man #600; third version in The Superior Spider-Man #26 |
So even though there is a high chance you are not aware of this supervillain with a ball as his head, he is one of the few marvel characters with numbered names!
X-23 (23)
X-23, one of the X-Men mutants is another Marvel character with number in her name, although the name doesn’t start with a number. But the reason why I included her name in the list of Marvel characters starting with number is because she is often known as just 23! So it is reasonable to include her name here. Her real name is Laura Kinney and she has been shown as the daughter of Wolverine in the new X-Men movie in which Hugh Jackman died. Alas, somehow he got reborn in Deadpool and Wolverine which is weird!
X-23 is awesome, she has the anger of Wolverine, claws of wolverine but not the age and mercy! So naturally, I like her!
Name | X-23 |
Publication Information | Publisher: Marvel Comics First Appearance: NYX #3 (2004) Created by: Craig Kyle, Christopher Yost |
In-Story Information | Alter Ego: Laura Kinney Species: Human mutate |
Abilities | Superhuman strength, agility, and healing factor Retractable adamantium claws Skilled hand-to-hand combatant Enhanced senses |
Character Biography | Laura Kinney: Created as a clone of Wolverine (Logan) by the Weapon X program. Initially trained as an assassin, she later joins various superhero teams. |
Powers Origin | Powers derived from: Genetic modification and adamantium bonding, making her a more refined version of Wolverine with additional enhancements. |
Other Versions | X-23 in alternate realities: Appears in various alternate realities and timelines, including as Wolverine in some stories and as a member of different teams. |
Notable Aliases | X-23 Laura Kinney Wolverine (when taking on the mantle in some storylines) |
Team Affiliations | X-Men X-Force Avengers New X-Men Weapon X |
These three are the most known Marvel characters starting with a number. However, the list can be extended further to extend some other characters which are not exactly suitable for this list. So I will add their names in the bonus list below.
Bonus list of Marvel Characters starting with number
Other than above mentioned notable characters, some other Marvel items have numbered names. Here is a bonus list of those characters:
- 803 – A service robot from Venom Series.
- 5 Ronin – A name given to group of Wolverine, Hulk, the Punisher, Psylocke, and Deadpool shown as samurais in Japan.
- Zero (0) – An Assassin in X-Men
These are some of the marvel characters with a numbered name. However, they are either limited series or sidekicks so I didn’t include their name in the main list.
